End of the Living Devblog #3: The breath on your neck

Greetings, fellow survivors of Metropolis! How is your journey in the vast streets of this once glorious city going? Meanwhile, we had luck to survive so far and keep working on the upcoming Posse Update, and oh boy, where do we start... We have some exciting stuff waiting for you. Let's begin!

Mutant Undeads

The undead you have encountered so far were quite human, right? Just various casual people, being transformed by different occasions and opening their eyes to the hunger for fresh flesh. What if we told you that was just the beginning...

Surely, some of them were transformed and left on the streets of Metropolis. But not all of them were that lucky... A group of prisoners was selected to be part of a set of chemical biology experiments in the hidden underground labs of the state prison. The full reports of these experiments are in the dusty shelves of the archive, which you will be able to collect as you progress in the game, but regardless, we know what happened to them in the end. They mutated, and they lost their original forms. Nonetheless, they also gained something in return. Mutated powers...

Some of them will freeze you to death. Some of them will burst their pathogen-filled acidic substances. And some of them will not even be visible until you feel their breath on your neck...

With the immense amount of lab experiments conducted for these prior prisoners, there will be a number of them waiting for you, besides the more occasional "normal" undead. Each one is a different kind, distributed around, and hunting for you in each district of Metropolis. They don't come around often, but when they do, it will not be difficult to notice... and... you better be prepared...

Here are a few of them under development. Can you guess what mutations they went through?

Turret Classes

The mutant undead we have been mentioning... We have to be prepared, right? Each one comes with a different mutation, so you may need to follow a different combat strategy. Here, we decided to give our fellow survivors more freedom. With the Posse Update, we are introducing the turret classes...

So far, you are going to have 4 different classes to choose from. Submachine, Breacher, Hunter, and Twin Barrel. Each one has different specs. Some of them are more range-oriented, some of them are more damage-oriented, and some of them are more reload speed-oriented. For example, are you in a situation where you prefer close-range combat? The answer is Breacher. You will shatter the undead into pieces with the pellets it scatters around. Or, another one. Do you need to hunt down the undead from a long distance, as soon as you see them stepping onto the battlefield? The answer is Hunter. Its stunning range capabilities will let you control any meter square on the battlefield.

They come at a cost, of course, a small sack of coins to pay. But when you buy, it's yours. You can switch between them anytime you like. Just don't forget to keep each of them upgraded. Otherwise, you might meet with a surprise when you deploy to the battlefield...

Turret Manual Firing and Overheating

One thing that kept us thinking about the old versions of EOTL was the turret's shooting mechanic. It was automatic, and we thought it was taking away from the survivors' connection to the feel of the turret. The feeling that you are loading up the shell to the turret and launching it when and where you want. So, this is going to change. No more automatic shooting. Now, grip the handles, and shoot yourself. The turret is manual. First, you will have to hold down to load the turret. It will take a bit of time since it has to load the shell first. Then, when it's loaded... BOOM! And, just keep holding it down until there is no more undead left. Regardless, Julie will do a good job explaining how this shooting mechanic works when you first arrive at the survivor camp.

But as seen in the section's title, we also mention an overheating mechanic, right? Well, yes. With the manual firing change, now, the turret also heats up as you keep shooting. Firing a shell is a process that generates heat, and if you don't keep an eye on it, you might end up with an overheated jamming turret. Trust us, you wouldn't want that when there is a horde of undead a few meters away from the camp's walls.

To prevent the turret from overheating, there is a cooling system mounted on your turret. It will help you cool down the turret. After a few turret reload speed upgrades, the cooling system may start becoming insufficient. Hence, now, you also have to keep the cooling system upgraded to a level that you feel confident with your setup. If you have a powerful but more sluggish turret, we don't think it would be a problem. But if you have a rapidly shooting turret, then definitely it would be a good practice to mind your cooling system upgrades.

Open Beta Release

And finally... The part we are most excited about. We are happy to announce that by the 19th of May 2025, everyone will be able to play Posse Update in their hands! The latest work-in-progress version of the game will be available for anyone who downloads the game on Google Play. You will be able to experience all the current and previously mentioned features in the devblogs! Any of your feedback would be welcomed, and if you wanna tell them directly to us, or just chat about them, the rest of the survivors and I will be waiting for you in our Discord server! And remember to follow us on our social media channels to keep updated and check out our content.

Take care of what's behind, keep aware of what's ahead. Good luck...
